Melbourne is often remarked as the culinary capital of Australia with a booming nightlife exempt of lockout laws. With hungry and thirsty revellers looking for a late night feed, hotdog or a nightcap, there are a large variety of bars, clubs and late night dining options that will suit anyone. Below is a list of Back of House's favourite spots for a late night bite.

  1. Boney 68 Little Collins St Melbourne 3000: A funky bar and band room from the team behind Cookie, the Toff in Town and Revolver Upstairs. Live music, DJs. Go to dishes - jalapeno donuts, brisket and ribs. Open till late.
  2. Foresters Hall 64 Smith St Collingwood 3066: Takeaway pizza till 2am every night and 4am on weekends, 32 craft beers on tap...need we say more? Chefs love this place. Upstairs at Wood's Picklebacks, Pool, Beer and Tunes till the early morning.
  3. Le Bon Ton 51 Gipps St Collingwood 3066: Le Bon Ton's food draws its influence from the American South. A smokehouse, absinthe salon, cocktail bar, oyster room and beer garden. You simply won't want to leave one well renowned chef said to us. A special late night menu from 12am-5am available Friday and Saturday. The smokehouse brisket is done Texas-style. The blackened fish and crab cakes come from the Louisiana Gulf Coast. Inspiration for their dishes comes from as far west as New Mexico and as Far East as Alabama.
  4. Supper Inn 161 Spring St Melbourne 3000: Serves Cantonese food till 2am daily proving a hit amongst chefs and hospitality workers. Good value, authentic food with dodgy decor - perfect for a chef.
  5. Café Romantica 52 Lygon St Brunswick East VIC 3057: Well priced Italian serving pizza and pasta. Ice cream and gelato open 24 hours in the kitchen till 2:30pm, and they deliver!
  6. Nieu Amsterdam 106-112 Hardware St Melbourne 3000: New York style bar and eatery, serving great cocktails too. Pumpkin donuts with Jack Daniels cream are a must. 100% of the beef they use in their burgers comes from 100% certified Wagyu cattle from Mayura Station.
  7. Colonel Tan's @ Revolver upstairs 229 Chapel St Melbourne 3000: Affordable Thai food, live bands, funky beats described as the "American diner hits Bangkok". Great nightclub too.
  8. Brother Burger Side of 413 Brunswick St Fitzroy 3065: Brother Burger serves some of the best burgers in Melbourne along with some great independent craft beers on tap.
  9. Fancy Hanks 456 Queen Street Melbourne 3000: Fancy Hanks BBQ joint serves traditional American-style slow cooked BBQ. A carnivores dream with traditional pit smokers. You can wash it down with a great list of craft beers, cocktails, wines, spirits and homemade soft drinks.
  10. Massive Wiener Hot Dog Stand 226 Chapel Street Prahan 3181: Massive Wieners specialise in foot-long hot dogs, fries and shakes. Open will 4am on weekends.
